About the project...
On 3 October 2025, a houseboat on the River Spree will be transformed into a floating stage – and the audience on the riverbank will experience the exclusive premiere of ‘The Sound of Le Boat’, the new piece by Berlin band Kat Koan, through wireless headphones.
The composition was not created in a studio, but on a houseboat, surrounded by water, wind and birdsong. During a retreat lasting several days in the Mecklenburg Lake District, the band drew inspiration from the natural environment – and created a work of sound art that makes it possible to hear how nature and music can touch us emotionally and open up new creative spaces.
The project is more than just a musical experiment: it is based on scientific findings that prove the positive influence of nature sounds on human well-being. Studies show that sounds such as birdsong or the gentle murmur of water reduce stress, promote concentration and provide inner peace. The band experienced this effect for themselves on the houseboat – and captured it in their sound.
The venue could hardly be more fitting: a quiet place in the middle of the city, overlooking the water, far away from the hustle and bustle – perfect for a concert dedicated to happiness in nature.
The project's partner is Le Boat, Europe's leading provider of licence-free houseboat holidays. With over 900 boats in the most beautiful water regions of Europe and Canada – from the Mecklenburg Lake District to the canals of France and Ireland – Le Boat makes it possible to experience the healing power of nature up close.
A houseboat holiday means slowing down, freedom and the feeling of being truly connected to your surroundings. No prior knowledge or boat licence is required to steer these comfortably equipped boats, which can accommodate two to twelve people and can be customised to suit your individual needs – whether you want to moor in small villages, paddle on the lake or have breakfast surrounded by reeds.
So if you want to not only hear the ‘sound of Le Boat’ but also experience it for yourself, a houseboat holiday is perhaps the most beautiful way to do something good for your body, mind and soul.
